How to trouble shoot:
When you notice this warning indicator light on cluster meter. Stop vehicle do not drive, as it could be much dangerous for your vehicle. hook up scan tool to find out fault code store in control module due to which this warning indicator light is illuminating on cluster meter.
This warning light could illuminate on cluster meter due to two big reasons. One is problem at engine compartment or the second is problem at automatic transmission control module (it could be either electrical or mechanical problem).
If there is any fault code store in control module which is related to the problem with engine electronic. Then check and rectify that due to which electronic failure this fault code store in contorl module. Like if there is any problem at engine compartment related to the engine fuel supply system. Then check the entire fuel supply system because of which this problem is occuring. Just like this if there is any other fault code in contorl module related to any other system of engine electronic than check that system properly so that problem can be found.
Most of the time this kind of warning indicator start illuminating on cluster meter. When engine starting problem occurs and engine does not start. This problem could be happen due to multiple reasons like electrical problems (faulty sensor, damage wiring harness, failure of any actuators, failure of control module), mechanical problems (Low level of engine oil, low level of engine coolant, internal damage inside combustion chamber, internal damage in automatic transmission gear box).
With the help of scan tool you need to find out what is the problem due to which this warning light is illuminating on cluster meter. If found any faulty sensor like (air mass sensor, manifold absolute pressure sensor, cam sensor, crank sensor, fuel rail pressure senor). Actuator (Exhaust gas recirculation sensor, turbocharge regulating valve, turbocharge actuator). Than replace that faulty sensor and actuator so that problem could be solve.
In case if there is a problem at automatic gear box due to which this warning light illuminate on cluster meter. Than check fault code store in automatic transmission control module and rectify that due to which sensor or actuator failure this warning light is illuminating. Just like inside automatic transmission there are many valve which is used to shift gear while driving also there are many sensor inside gear box and outside gear box. For example automatic transmission control module use signal from wheel speed sensor to shift gear while driving. Check each sensor and actuator for the properly and when found anything faulty replace that.
Check if gear shifting is proper while driving, if gear shifting is not proper and there is jerking in the gear shifting system than there is a problem with automatic gear box. This problem could be happened due to multiple reasons like low level of oil in the automatic transmission gear box, clogged oil filter in the automatic transmission. Check oil level and oil condition in the automatic transmission gear box. If oil level is not proper as per the requirements than top up the oil level and then check if the warning light goes off. But if still there is some problem than go to check in deep so that problem can be solve.
How risky it is to drive with this warning light:
Driving with this warning indicator light may be very risky as this warning indicator light illuminate only when there is some seroius issue detect by the control module. Most probably car will not start when this warning light will start illuminate on cluster meter. But if still it does get start do not drive. Because if you will continue drive your vehicle it can cause measure issue with the engine or gear box. Like if this warning light will start illuminating on cluster meter because of low oil level in the engine, and you continue drive your vehicle with low oil level in the engine. it can damage the entire engine combustion chamber, which can be expansive to fix.
What was mine case:
In my case engine was stalling again and again after running certain kilometer. When we hook up scan tool there was no fault code store in control module related to the engine and automatic gear box. When we check fault code in ESP control module which is known as electronic stability control. There was a fault code store of about front left wheel speed sensor and nothing else. We replace that wheel speed sensor and take trial again after driving certain kilometer engine get stall. Again when we check with the help of scan tool there was no fault code store in control module. Then again we start the engine and continue the drive the vehicle. After certain kilometer again engine stall, we stop there and then check the fault code. Then there was the fault code store in control module of about engine crank sensor.
We replace crank sensor with the brand new OEM part from Mercedes Benz. After all this when we take trial vehicle was running smoothly. We though the problem is now solve, but we were returning to workshop than again we face the same problem. Now there was no fault code store in control module.
After searching and finding from more than 3 days we found that its flywheel gear was slight damage. Due to which sometime crank sensor did not send the signal to control module of about engine speed. After replacing worn out flywheel the problem was completely solve.
Solution:
Repair or replace damage wiring harness of the engine and automatic transmission box.
Replace faulty sensor and actuator of engine. Repair or replace internal damage of the engine.
Repair or replace internal damage of the automatic transmission.
Replace faulty control module.
Replace blown fuse of sensor and actuator.
