29EB00 EGR cooler bypass flap faulty

Exhaust gas refcirculation cooling plausibility: 29EB00 EGR cooler bypass flap faulty or cooler efficiency too low store in engine control module, when engine control module detect low flow of exhaust gas into combustion engine through Exhaust gas cooler actuator flap. Exhaust gas recirculating cooler is use in engine to cool down exhaust gas before entering into combustion engine.

It is either actuate by electrical or pneumatic with the help of vacuum actuator motor. Failure of exhaust gas cooler can lead no power in engine while powering at high speed. If exhaust gas cooler is completely not opening than it might be possible that engine will not power up at low speed also. When exhaust gas cooler open slightly low than engine will not power up at high speed like 100-120/KM. When engine control module detect low flow or no flow from exhaust gas cooler than it store fault code 29EB00 Exhaust gas recirculation cooling,plausibility:exhaust gas recirculation cooler bypass flap faulty or cooler efficiency too low.

Causes of 29EB00 EGR Cooler Bypass Flap Faulty:

  • Faulty Exhaust gas cooler flap.
  • Faulty flap actuator motor.
  • Leak vacuum pipe.
  • Damage wiring harness of vacuum motor or flap.
  • Leak at exhaust gas cooler (broken body).
  • Carbon deposition at exhaust gas flap.

Symptoms 0f 9EB00 EGR Cooler Bypass Flap Faulty :

  • Engine will not power up.
  • Low pick up while driving.
  • Engine light will illuminate on cluster meter.
  • Drive train fault code will start showing on display.

How to trouble shoot :

  • Mechanic need to scan vehicle with scan tool, when find faut code 29EB00 EGR Cooler Bypass Flap Faulty Or Cooler Efficiency Too Low.
  • First do a visual inspection at exhaust gas cooler flap body and flap actuator. If found any where leak on exhaust gas cooler body or at flap, replace that leak part to solve problem.
  • If there is no leak on exhaust gas cooler body or at flap. Than go to check flap actuator motor if flap is control by pneumatic motor. There will be a pipe on actuator motor connected on exhaust gas cooler flap. That pipe is use to open or close exhaust gas cooler flap by vacuum according to the requirements. Check that pipe if that is leak or there is loose connection on flap than make it perfect connection so that problem can be solve.
  • Sometime pneumatic motor which is use to control exhaust gas cooler flap may be faulty. But failure possibility of that actuator motor is when you find fault code store in control module which lead problems toward actuator motor. If find actuator motor faulty replace that actuator motor with new one, also check power supply at actuator motor.
  • If all the above things are good enough than remove exhaust gas cooler flap there could be carbon deposition. That carbon deposition can lead to not actuate flap motor due to which fault code can be store in engine control module.
  • there might be some other problem at other sensor which could do effect on exhaust gas cooler flap opening. Like if air mass sensor is faulty it will send wrong signal to engine control module due to which engine control module can stop sending signal to exhaust gas cooler flap actuator motor. When air mass sensor send signal to engine control module that the air entering into engine is in low quantity but actually air is entering into high quantity. Than in this case engine control module fire injectors in low quantity fuel as it is getting signal of low quantity air entering into combustion engine through air mass sensor. So in case if engine control module firing injector at low fuel quantity than there will be low power out put. due to which there is no need to open exhaust gas recirculating flap at low speed.

Solution :

  • Repair or replace leak or broken exhaust gas cooler body.
  • Clean carbon from exhaust gas cooler flap.
  • Replace leak actuator motor pipe from flap.
  • Repair or replac faulty actuator motor.
  • Replace broken or damage exhaust gas cooler flap.
  • Repair damage wiring harness.

Special note :

  • Most of the time when mechanic see fault code29EB00 EGR Cooler Bypass Flap Faulty Or Cooler Efficiency Too Low store in vehicle. They start opening exhaust gas cooler, flap, and all the other things. Because they thing that this problem can be solve by cleaning carbon deposit on exhaust gas cooler flap. They are almost right sometime because this fault code can be store in engine control module due to carbon deposit or leak cooler body but not always.
  • Before opening exhaust gas cooler flap to clean check outer part if they are working or not. Like actuator motor, pneumatic pipe, loose conection, broken flap etc. If all these looking good than open exhaust gas cooler flap to clean.
