P190e coolant pump for charge pressure

There are two types of coolant pump in the VW group of vehicles to cool down the engine heating system. One is a mechanical coolant pump and the other one is an electronic coolant pump. The mechanical pump is also known as a water pump which runs with the help of an engine accessory belt. The other coolant pump works with the help of electric power. This fault P190e coolant pump for charge pressure cooler open circuit/supply voltage is stored in the control module due to the problem with the electronic coolant pump.

At the engine compartment, there are two electric coolant pumps installed one is used to cool down the heat of coolant which circulates through the interior heating and cooling system which is also known as a heater support pump. The other one is used to cool down the coolant which circulates through the engine block and radiator. When this fault P190e coolant pump for charge pressure cooler open circuit/supply voltage is stored in the engine control module it means that there is some problem with the engine coolant cooling pump. ­There might be some other fault code stored in the engine control module related to this coolant pump. Just like,

All these codes are similar to each other. It might be possible that all these fault codes are present in the control module together. But all these fault codes indicate problems at the electronic coolant pump.

causes of P190e coolant pump for charge pressure:

Faulty electronic coolant pump.

Blown fuse of electronic coolant pump.

Damage wiring harness of electronic coolant pump.

Leak coolant pipe which is connected with electronic coolant pump.

Block coolant pipe.

Low level of coolant in the cooling system.

Symptoms of P190e coolant pump for charge pressure:

Check engine light will start illuminating on the cluster meter.

Fault code will be presenr in the control module.

Loss of power while driving at high speed.

Engine coolant may flow in slow motion due to which the engine overheating problem can cause

How to troubleshoot:

While driving at high speed when it feels that engine is dropping its power and the check engine warning light is illuminating on cluster meter. You need to check out the problem, with the help of scan tool. When you find this fault P190e coolant pump for charge pressure store in engine control module. First of all inspect the coolant pump area visually, to find out if coolant is leaking from the coolant pump or the wiring harness is damage. If did not find anything visually over there.

Than start trouble shooting this fault from checking the fuse of coolant pump. Fuse of the coolant pump in always there at the fuse box which is present at the engine compartment. Fuse should be about 5 or 7.5 amp. Sometime this fault code store in control module due to blown fuse. Check this fuse if fuse is damage than replace it with the new one. Always remember never use over rated fuse as it can cause serious damage to your engine.

Step 2

In case if fuse is not damage than go to check the wiring harness of the coolant pump. There would be three wires at the coolant pump connector (diagram of wiring is given below). Check voltage, ground and signal at the connector if anything from all these is missing than it might be possible that wiring harness is break from somewhere. Also, if 12V positive is not present than it would be fault of blown fuse, if ground is not present at the connector than it would be the problem of damage wiring harness and if signal from ECM is not present at the connector than it would be the problem of engine control module. If wiring harness is damage than repair it or if fuse is damage that replace it. In case if engine control module is faulty than repair it.

Now if harness is not damage from anywhere and all the parameter is present at the connector. Than the leakage of coolant at the engine cooling system. Because if there will be any leakage at the cooling system. Than coolant pump will need to create more pressure to fill the requirement of coolant in the engine cooling system. In result of which coolant pump will release a high resistance voltage toward engine control module. When engine control module receive this high resistance voltage from coolant pump. It will store fault code of faulty coolant pump.

In case if coolant is also not leak from the engine cooling system than replace the coolant pump to solve this problem. As it is the last one option which can create this fault code to be store in control module. Always remember never replace the coolant pump with the any other type of coolant pump which look like similar to it, but did not the same one. Because when this kind of experiment get done it did solve the problem completely.

Solution of P190e coolant pump for charge pressure:

Repair damage wiring harness of the coolant pump.

Replace blown fuse of the coolant pump.

Repair or replace the coolant leak pipe.

Replace the faulty electronic coolant pump.

Fill the coolant in the coolant tank to it’s require level.

Clear the path of coolant flow in the engine cooling system.

How risky it is to drive with this fault code:

Driving with this fault code store in engine control module is highly risky. It can cause the problem like loss of power while driving at high speed. Also when this fault code store and coolant pump is faulty it might be possible that it cause engine overheating problem. When engine overheating problem start occurring it can damage internal portion of the engine. So do not drive vehicle with this fault code store in engine control module.

Common mistake while solving this kind of fault code:

Most of the time when this fault code store in control module. The technician who is handling this fault code, they change the coolant pump without diagnosing this fault code properly. This fault code should be diagnose it the same way as we have explain at the trouble shooting parts. Sometime it happens that coolant pump is not faulty. Its fuse get blown due to excessive work of electronic coolant pump. When fuse is blown it does not make any sense to change electronic pump as it will not solve this problem.  

What was is our case:

We were trouble shooting this fault code in Audi A4 2.0 TDI engine. Fault code was store in control module in active status. When we suspect this fault code in control module. First of all we check the location of electronic coolant pump. There was no leak in the system and no damage wiring harness of the electronic coolant pump. We check voltage across the connector of pump. Voltage, ground and signal wire was present at the connector. Than we replace the faulty electronic coolant pump. After replacing coolant pump fault code goes to passive state. It means that problem is now solve, we take a short distance trial of car. After trial we check the engine control module and there was no fault code store in it.

Caution needs to be care while solving this fault code:

 While troubleshooting this fault code if in case it require to remove the coolant pipe from the coolant pump. Than do not remove the coolant pipe in engine running or engine heat condition. Because it might be possible that when remove the pipe line of coolant in engine heat condition. It can burn your hand or face with hot water coming out from coolant pipe.

In this situation let the engine stall and wait for some time till the engine become cool. Then remove the coolant pipe to complete the work. In this way you can save yourself from serious injury.
