C1593 the torque sensor of power steering

Fault code C1593 the torque sensor of power steering has a malfunction related to the problem with the torque sensor. Which is located inside the steering column or at the end of the steering column joint. in the new model torque sensor is built into the steering control module which is located at the steering rack. This sensor is used in the steering operation to send the signal to the control module of driver effort on the steering wheel. when the driver applies some effort on the steering wheel to turn the steering, the torque sensor senses this effort and sends a signal to the steering control module. The steering control module monitors this signal from the torque sensor, according to which the control module rotates the electric motor to turn the steering angle.

Mostly torque sensor is made up of magnet, and they work based on the magnetic field. The reason behind this sensor failure is most of the time improper fitting of the sensor at its location. Sometimes mechanics hit the steering ball joint to disconnect the suspension which is also a reason behind this sensor failure. When it fails steering operation becomes irregular and quite hard to use. Sometimes when the torque sensor fails fail steering wheel does not turn on any side.

Causes of C1593 the torque sensor of power steering:

  • Faulty torque sensor.
  • Damage wiring harness of the torque sensor.
  • Improper fitting of the torque sensor.
  • Faulty steering control module.

Symptoms of C1593 the torque sensor of power steering:

  • The steering warning light will start illuminating on the cluster meter.
  • Fault code will store in control module.
  • Steering operation will become hard to steer.

How to trouble shoot:

Case#1: When the steering operation becomes hard to steer and steering warning light start illuminating on cluster meter. check the reason behind this warning light. Hook up the scan tool and check the fault code stored in the control module. If the fault code stored in the control module shows a problem with the torque sensor. Go to check the condition of the torque sensor.

Check visually if there is any damage found across the steering torque sensor. Than repair or replace that sensor so that problem of steering warning light can be solve. But if there is no problem found visually at the location of torque sensor. than you need to check it by removing out side from its location. Check torque sensor if its side or the wire wouded around it broken or not. If there is any damage across the sensor than you need to change it to solve the problem.

Case#2:

In some model of vehicles steering torque sensor is built in the column. When the steering torque sensor is built into the column you can not see this. In this situation, you need to check the function of the torque sensor with the help of a scan tool. Check the reading of the torque sensor by turning the steering wheel right or left. When you turn the steering wheel, the reading of the torque sensor should move accordingly. If it does not move then it means that the sensor is faulty. In this situation, you need to replace the faulty sensor with a new one to solve the problem. Most of the time when the sensor is built into the steering column you need to change the whole steering column.

Case#3:

In the new coming model steering torque sensor is present into the steering control module which is connected to the steering rack. In this situation when there is a problem with the steering torque sensor you will need to change the whole steering control module. Because there is no other torque sensor in the steering rack. After replacing the steering rack you will need to perform coding and programming process, and also steering angle sensor calibration.

How risky it is to drive:

Driving with the fault code C1593 the torque sensor of the power steering stored in the control module can be risky. As it can cause you to not turn the steering while driving. When the steering torque sensor functions proper steering operation feels easy and soft while driving. But when the sensor does not function properly turning the steering wheel feels hard. That’s why when the torque sensor does not function properly you may not handle the steering. In this situation driving with this fault code can be much more risky.
