Chassis stabilization

Chassis stabilization warning light illuminate on cluster meter when control module detect any problem in the chassis management. this fault code coulde be store in control module due to multiples reasons which is related to the chasis management system. Chassis management system control DSC (dynamic stability control), EPS (electronic power steering), ICM (integrated chassis management) etc. If there will be any fault code occurs at these control module system than this warning light will illuminate on cluster meter.

When this warning light start illuminating on cluster meter than stop driving vehicle. As this warning start illuminate only when there is any serious issue happen with vehicle electrical system. That’s why driving vehicle in this situation is not a good idea.

Causes of chassis stabilization:

  • Failure of any electrical sensor in the chassis control system.
  • Failure of any control module which are parts of the chassis management system.
  • Damage wiring harness of the control module.
  • Damage wiring harness of the sensor.
  • Faulty steering angle sensor.

Symptoms of chassis stabilization:

  • Chassis management fault warning light will illuminate on cluster.
  • Fault code will store in contorl modules.
  • Vehicle may not start in some condition.
  • Low power and pickup issue in vehicle.
  • Gear shifting issue in automatic transmission.

How to trouble shoot :

Case#1:

When this warning light will start illuminating on cluster meter stop vehicle do not drive. Hook up scan tool and find out fault code store in control module. Check fault code store in control module if it show fault code related to any sensor problem. Than locate the faulty sensor and replace that sensor so that problem can be solve. If fault code show problem at the damage wiring harness than find out the damage wiring harness and repair that.

Most of the time when this fault code store in control module. There might be some serious issue with vehicle. In this situation finding cause of this warning light might not be so easy. To find out the problem you have to check each control module fault code. And rectify them very curiously that in which direction all those fault code indicating problem toward. Like if there will be the problem of steering angle sensor, than steering angle warning light will also illuminate on cluster meter. In this situation you need to check steering angle sensor properly. First check the movement of steering angle sensor with the help of scan tool. Slowly slowly rotate steering wheel and check the reading of the angle sensor. If reading did not increase of decrease as steering wheel turn left or right than it means sensor is not in good condition, it need to change. But in case if sensor reading increase or decrease as steering wheel turn left or right.  Than check if steering angle sensor is require calibration. If it require calibration than calibrate angle sensor. After calibration if still fault code did not change than you need to replace that steering angle sensor. Which is creating fault code store in control module.

Case#2:

If there is any warning light on cluster meter related to ABS (antilock braking system) control module. Than check fault code store in control module, read all the fault code store in control module. Rectify that due to which problem all those fault codes which is store in control module. Like if fault code store in control module related to problem with sensor. Than check due to which sensor this fault code store in control module. If there is any problem of sensor than check wiring harness of the sensor if wiring harness is not damage than replace that sensor. After replacing abs sensor if fault code still exist than check the reluctance of the abs which is inside the wheel bearing. If reluctance is damage or broken than replace that reluctance so that problem can be solve.

In case if the fault code store in control module give direction toward failure of ABS control module. Thant go to check the problem at the ABS control module. Check wiring harness of the control module, if wiring harness is not damage than check fuse related to the control module. If wiring harness and fuse related to control module is good. Than it means that there is some problem at the ABS control module. Replace that faulty ABS control module, if require than do coding and programming of the control module.

Case#3:

ICM control module control the entire control module of chassis. It supply power and signal to all the other control module which is related to the chassis. It also control headlight range with the help of signal coming from headlight height sensor. Which is located at the arms of the suspension. When these sensor stop sending signal to control module than also this fault code will start illuminating on cluster meter.

In this case most of the time lever of the height sensor get disconnected from the sensor. Due to which this fault code store in control module, just reconnect that lever. But if the lever is not disconnected than also fault code store in control module. Than it might be possible that wiring harness of the sensor is damage from somewhere in the wiring harness. Find damage wiring harness of the sensor repair it so that this fault code did not exist. There are some other sensor also present in vehicle, they may also create this fault code store in control module.

How risky it is to drive with chassis stabilization:

Driving with this fault code could be risky as this warning light start illuminating only when there is some serious issue happen with vehicle. Like if this warning start illuminating due to the problem in ABS control module. Than Abs control module will not apply brake properly. In this situation driving will be much risky there is a risk of brake failure. Like this if fault code store in control module failure of steering angle sensor. Than steering angle sensor will not send proper signal to power steering control module. Power steering control module use signal from steering angle sensor to turn the steering. When steering angle sensor will not send proper signal to control module than it might be possible that you will face hard steering operation.

Precaution need to be care while solving this kind of fault code:

While solving chassis stabilization kind of fault code you need to give more attention so that it does take more cost for repair. Like if there is some fault code store in control module of about faulty wheel speed sensor. Than first thing you need to do is to check wiring harness of the sensor. If wiring harness is not damage and there is no problem than check the reluctance of the sensor. Most of the time reluctance of the sensor get contaminated with dust particles. Due to which sensor does not able to sense the reluctance point in result which warning light start illuminating on cluster meter. If reluctance is not contaminated with dust and there is no any other problem there than only change the wheel speed sensor. Doing work in this kind of step can save you a lot of money.
