51-03 torque sensor (VT1,VT2) rapid change

Fault code 51-03 torque sensor (VT1,VT2) rapid change is related to the problem with EPS (electronic power steering control system). Vehicle which are occupied with EPS control system to control steering smoothly. There are three things that is use to control steering in EPS system. EPS control module, motor, torque sensor these are the three things which is use to control steering. When found fault code 51-03 torque sensor (VT1,VT2) rapid change. Fault code indicating problem at torque sensor. Torque sensor has two side to work one is left side and the other one is right side. This could be the problem of faulty EPS control module. But before replacing EPS control module check all the other things which need to be check.

Causes of 51-03 torque sensor (VT1,VT2) rapid change :

  • Faulty EPS control module.
  • Faulty torque sensor.
  • Damage wiring harness.
  • Weak steering motor

Symptoms of 51-03 torque sensor (VT1,VT2) rapid change :

  • Steering will become so hard.
  • Steering light will illuminate on cluster meter.
  • Fault code will store in control module.

How to trouble shoot :

  • When found fault code 51-03 torque sensor (VT1,VT2) rapid change store in EPS control module. Check reading of the torque sensor with the help of scan tool. Hook scan tool to vehicle OBD connector and check reading of torque sensor by turning steering wheel left or right. Torque sensor should show some reading while turning left or right. If torque senor is not showing any reading when steering wheel turned right or left than it means that either torque sensor wiring harness is damage or torque sensor itself is faulty. In case if torque sensor showing low or high reading while turning than also there might be the problem of torque sensor.
  • Check wiring harness of the torque sensor if there is any damage than repair it. Or if wiring harness is good than replace torque sensor. Before replacing torque sensor measure the resistance of it with multimeter.
  • Also check continuity or wire from EPS control module to torque sensor. Purpose of doing continuity test is that if there will be any damage at wiring harness or any loose connection you will come to know that. EPS control module is located at left side pillar behind glove box. From there wire go to driver side, there is the another socket connection. There could be loose connection, rust etc. You should check there also , if there is no loose than go to further procedure.
  • If after replacing torque sensor problem is not going. Than it might be possible that there could be the problem of EPS control module. Because in most of the vehicle there is the problem of EPS control module.
  • Repair or replace EPS (electronic power steering) control module. That will solve the problem, to confirm scan vehicle with scan tool there should be no fault code in control module.
  • The other thing that can be happen is wiring connection, check if someone was already trying to repair damage wiring harness and he did wrong wiring than also there will be fault code at EPS control module. Joint wiring harness properly according to wiring diagram that will solve problem.

Solution :

  • Faulty torque sensor.
  • Damage wiring harness.
  • Faulty EPS (electronic power steering) control module.
  • Blown fuse.
