Fault code 290b00 Air system air to egr air mass flow is related to the Problem with air intake into combustion engine through air filter. There is a sensor after air filter at the intake pipe known as air mass sensor. Air mass sensor sens amount of air entering into combustion engine and send this signal to engine control module according to which engine control module fire fuel into combustion engine. When there is more amount of air entering into combustion engine which are not calculated by air mass sensor than it can be possible that engine control module set fault code 290b00 Air system air to egr air mass flow store in engine control module.

There is only one way of air entering into combustion engine that is through air filter. There might be two reasons behind this fault code store in engine control module. first one is air intake pipe can be damage or leak after air mass sensor due to which air mass sensor is not able to calculate that air which are entering from that leak air intake pipe after air mass sensor. Second thing is that for this problem is faulty air mass sensor which is not working properly to calculate amount of air entering into combustion engine.

Also there could be the problem of faulty manifold absolute pressure sensor. Air mass sensor and manifold absolute pressure sensor are connect to each other. Air mass sensor measure amount of air entering into combustion engine, manifold absolute pressure sensor measure pressure of air entering into combustion engine. It can be possible that a faulty manifold absolute pressure sensor can disturb the signal of air mass sensor. Or there is a heavy amount of carbon deposit on manifold absolute pressure or at air mass sensor due to which sensor does not work properly.

Causes of 290b00 Air system air to egr air mass flow :

Leak air intake pipe.

Faulty air mass sensor.

Faulty throttle body.

Leak intake manifold

Carbon desposition on sensor.

Damage wiring harness.

Faulty manifold absolute pressure sensor.

Symptoms of 290b00 Air system air to egr air mass flow:

Low power even at high RPM.

Engine warning light will illuminate on cluster meter.

It can create problem while driving at high speed.

Pick up issue at high speed.

How to trouble shoot:

This problem is related to air intake into combustion engine. When this fault code store in engine control module. It can be a serious problem to solve this. Because this fault code can be store in engine control module due minor leak in air intake system. To solve this problem you need to have work on it very carefully.

First thing to do in this problem is to open bonnet and go to check visually any leak at intake air pipe line after air mass sensor. If found any leak at intake air pipe or at air filter body than repair or replace that leak part. Check fault code after replacing or repairing air intake pipe. If this problem was due to leak air intake pipe than fault code should not be present after closing that leaky thing.

There is one more pipe in this system which is connected with air filters body from downside. Check that pipe if that is connected or not as if this pipe will not be connected with air filter body than also there will be fault of low amount of air entering into combustion engine.

If there is no leak at intake pipe or at air filter body than it might be possible that air mass sensor is faulty. As it is calculating low amount of air entering into combustion engine. With the help of scan tool check reading of air mass sensor. Reading of air mass sensor should increase after acceleration,if it does than it not faulty. But if it doesn’t response any reading ( increase or decreasing ) after acceleration than it can be faulty. Replace that air mass sensor that can solve this problem. Also check wiring harness of sensor if it is damage than repair.

The other thing that can be the reason behind this problem is faulty manifold absolute pressure sensor. Manifold absolute pressure sensor is located on the top intake manifold. Check reading of manifold absolute pressure sensor. Reading of sensor should increase or decrease according to acceleration. If reading of sensor is increasing or decreasing accordingly than it means that sensor is good. If it does not than it can be faulty or there is carbon deposit on it from inside. Due to which sensor does not able to calculate pressure of air entering into combustion engine. Remove sensor from intake manifold clean or replace it properly so that it can measure pressure of air properly.

Also check throttle body for this problem, check if throttle is working properly or not.

Most probably behind this problem the reason is a leaky air intake pipe. From where air enter into combustion engine directly without knowing air mass sensor. Due to which this fault code store in engine control module repair or replace that faulty or leak air intake pipe so that there is no extra amount of air enter into combustion engine.

Also check intake manifold for leak. Because sometimes when intake manifold have a minor crack in it. From where air enter into combustion engine without triggering air mass sensor . This is also a big reason behind fault code 290b00 Air system air to egr air mass flow store in engine control module.

Solution:

Repair or replace leaky air intake pipe.

Replace or clean faulty air mass sensor.

Clean or replace manifold absolute pressure sensor.

Clean throttle body.

Repair leak intake manifold.

Repair damage wiring harness sensor.

Note:

In most of the cases this fault code store in engine control module when there is any leak at the air intake into combustion engine through intake manifold. Check pipe line or air intake the would be leak, find that leak and repair or replace that leak pipe or part.
