156000 The negative control deviation during exhaust gas recirculation control is too high

Fault code 156000 The negative control deviation during exhaust gas recirculation control is too high in mercedes benz is related to the problem with air intake in to combustion engine. There are two things which are use to send air into combustion engine. One is intake manifold and the other one is exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). There is a sensor on intake manifold which is know as air mass sensor. Air mass sensor is use to send signal to engine control module that how much air is entering into combustion engine. The second sensor is on exhaust gas recirculation, which send signal to engine control module that how much amount of air is re-entering into combust engine . Engine control module use this signal to fire fuel injector in combustion engine. When there is any changes take place between intake manifold sensor and exhaust gas recirculation sensor engine control module set fault code 156000 The negative control deviation during exhaust gas recirculation control is too high.

In mercedes benz 350 GL, 350 ML CDI there are two air mass sensor installed. Also there are two or more exhaust gas recirculation system installed at engine. Failure of any one of these can store this fault code in engine control module. When intake manifold get leak due to any reason air enter into combustion engine from wrong place. From that place amount of air is not counted by sensor or intake manifold

Causes of 156000 The negative control deviation:

  • Faulty air mass sensor.
  • broken turbocharger fins.
  • Faulty exhaust gas recirculation system.
  • Leak at intake manifold.
  • broken or damage wiring harness.

Symptoms of 156000 The negative control deviation :

  • Low pick up power.
  • Late gear shifting.
  • Also low mileage.
  • Malfunction light will illuminate on cluster.
  • jerk while driving.

How to trouble shoot :

  • When found fault 156000 The negative control deviation during exhaust gas recirculation control is too high in mercedes benz S221 or 350 CDI 4matic.
  • Mechanic need to scan vehicle with the helf of scan tool to find out fault code, also check reading of air mass sensor and opening position of exhaust gas recirculation valve.

Case #1

  • First check both air mass sensor reading, that should be equal. If reading of air mass sensor is not equal than check conditions of air mass sensor
  • If there is dirt store at air mass sensor clean that dir with cleaner.
  • than check pipe which is connected with air mass sensor to turbo charger. That pipe should not leak after air mass sensor as that air is not measure by air mass sensor. If found any leak than repair that leak area that can solve problem.
  • In case all the above thing which are related to air mass sensor are in good working condition,than there is no problem.
  • Than go to check exhaust gas recirculation valve if it is opening proper or not. if EGR valve is not opening as per the requirement then check the reason why EGR is not opening.
  • there are actuator motor which control exhaust gas recirculation valve opening and closing. Also check leak at actuator motor pipe that is connected with EGR actuator.
  • In mercedes there are one electronic exhaust gas recirculation and second is vacuum control EGR valve.
  • after cleaning air mass sensor fault code should be delet. If still fault code is not clearing than replace air mass sensor. After replacing air mass sensor.try to delete fault code, if still fault code is present.
Air mass sensor
  • Electronic exhaust gas recirculation is located at the rear side of air mass sensor. Remove that and clean valve if carbon deposition is there.
EGR actuator motor
  • Vacuum actuator motor and vacuum actuated exhaust gas recirculation valve is located at front left side of engine. Check if there is any leak at vacuum motor or pipe which is connected exhaust gas recirculation valve. If found any leak at motor or pipe then repair it that will solve fault.

Special note :

Most of the time fault code 156000 The negative control deviation during exhaust gas recirculation control is too high is store in engine control module when there is any changes take place at intake manifold to enter air into combustion engine. Measure issue occurs by problem of air mass sensor or leak at intake manifold or at air mass sensor. By checking or working on intake manifold fault code can be solve.

There is very few chance of failure of exhaust gas recirculation valve. But for the surety cleaning air mass sensor is a good things. Because sometime carbon deposition on EGR valve is also reason behind a stuck EGR valve.

Solution :

  • Replace faulty air mass sensor.
  • Repair leak intake pipe.
  • Repair damage wiring harness of EGR.
  • Replace faulty vacuum motor.
  • Clean exhaust gas recirculation valve.
